Solving quadratic equations by completing the square

In order to solve a quadratic equation by completing the square, follow these steps:

1. Rewrite the trinomial in the form x2+bx = c
2. Take half of b, square it, and add the result to both sides of the equation.
3. Solve for x by taking the square root of both sides.
5. Check you answer.

Solve by completing the square 3p2-12p - 15 = 0

3p2-12p-15=0
p2-4p-5=0
p2-4p=5
p2-4p+4=5+4
(p-2)2=9
We have: p-2=3 and p-2=-3, that is: p=5 and p=-1
