Surface area of a cube

The surface area of a cube is the sum of the area of the six squares that cover it.

What is the surface area?

Each face of the cube is a square with sides that are 4 centimeters long.

Find the area of one face:

Area = side × side

= 4 × 4

= 16

The area of each face is 16 square centimeters. There are 6 faces. Multiply:

Surface area = 6 × 16

= 96

The surface area of the cube is 96 square centimeters.

What is the surface area when a=5?
